On July 11th, 2019, one of the members of Youth Team Rumah Faye, Schalke Anindya, attended a consultative meeting with the United Nations, which was held in the Jakarta-based United Nations office located in Menara Thamrin, Jakarta and was moderated by one of the representatives from UN. The meeting itself was titled as the consultative meeting in preparation of the new United Nations Partnership Development Framework (UNPDF) for the period 2021 – 2025. This new framework will emphasize on UN’s engagement in Indonesia that reflects their responses towards our national priorities. They believe that youths have a significant role in assisting and contributing to the United Nations agenda in responding to national issues that take place in all areas.
The meeting lasted for approximately 90 minutes, where the topics discussed were revolving around issues or urgencies that youths encounter on a daily basis. It was started off by self-introduction and mentioning which organization does each delegate represent; all attendees of the meeting represent organisations of multiple fields that come from varying areas in Indonesia. After that, the delegates were required to mention as many things that they are glad, sad and mad about in Indonesia. There were many “glad’s”, yet more “sad’s” and “mad’s” were voiced. Multiple issues were brought to attention, such as environmental issues, corruption rate, human capital issues, lack of education, difficult access to healthcare and poor social facilities.
Towards the end of the meeting, the United Nations representative stated that from the previous meeting that was held, they had cut down all these numerous issues that were mentioned into 8 main challenges. The challenges are persistent poverty and inequality; food insecurity; equality of women and violence against women; human capital for economic transformation; natural resources and biodiversity management; climate change and natural disasters; rising intolerance; inclusive, effective and transparent government. To wrap up the meeting, each of the delegate was given 3 votes to choose the most significant and urgent matters that need to be addressed.
